How To Fix A Stuck Keyboard Key?

Stuck keys on keyboards are annoying at best and downright dangerous at worst. You might not realize it, but there are actually two types of stuck keys on keyboards. One type is caused by dirt or debris getting lodged between the key and its corresponding switch.

The other type is caused by corrosion. Corrosion occurs when metal contacts water, causing the metal to oxidize and become brittle. Over time, this can cause the key to stick.

To fix either type of stuck key, you’ll need to remove the key from the keyboard and clean it thoroughly. Then, replace the key and reattach it to the keyboard. Once you’ve cleaned the key, you should be able to slide it back onto the keyboard without any problems.

Steps

1. Cleaning The Keypad By Removing Keys

Sometimes keys become stuck on your keyboard. You may not notice it at first, but if you keep pressing down on the same spot, eventually the key will start moving.

Once it starts moving, try gently pushing it upwards until it pops off. Then clean the surface underneath where the key was pressed.

This method works well for cleaning sticky keys on a jammed keyboard key. However, if you accidentally press down on the wrong key, you might end up breaking it instead. So, be careful!

2. Blowing Out The Keyboard

There are times when we accidentally press keys on our keyboards that we didn’t mean to hit. Sometimes, those accidental presses cause us to blow out the entire keyboard. Fortunately, there are several solutions available to fix this problem.

First, if you’re using a laptop, try removing the battery. Then, plug it back in and wait for it to charge. Once it does, replace the battery and restart your computer. You should now be able to access your files without blowing out the keyboard.

Another solution involves replacing the keyboard itself. There are two types of replacement keyboards available: wireless and wired. Wireless keyboards are great because they eliminate the hassle of connecting cables between your computer and the keyboard.

However, they require batteries that must be replaced periodically. Wired keyboards are less convenient because they require you to connect cables between your computer and keyboard. But, they last longer and won’t require any maintenance.

Finally, you can buy a separate USB keyboard. These are inexpensive and come with extra buttons that you can assign to perform specific functions. Some models include additional media controls, making them ideal for music lovers.

3. Clean Sticky Keys

Sticky keys are those keys on your keyboard that won’t let go of whatever they’re stuck on. You may find yourself pressing the wrong key repeatedly until you finally give up and clean off the sticky residue.

This problem happens to everyone at some point, but luckily, Clean Sticky Keys can fix it. Simply spray the surface of the sticky keys with water, wait a minute, and then press down firmly on the keys to remove any remaining residue. Then wipe away any excess moisture with a paper towel.

4. Changing A Broken Key

Sometimes keys break off inside our keyboards. We may not notice right away, but eventually, we start noticing that certain keys won’t work anymore. You might think that you can fix it yourself, but sometimes it takes professional repair services to change a broken key.

There are two main types of broken keys: mechanical and electronic. Mechanical keys are made of metal and plastic, whereas electronic keys are made of silicon and glass. Electronic keys are usually easier to replace, but if you find that your broken key isn’t working properly, you should call a technician to come out and look at it.

A broken key can cause problems with your computer, including making typing difficult and causing errors. Fortunately, most broken keys can be fixed easily. All you need to do is remove the old key and install the new one.

5. Launch The Keyboard Troubleshooter

Have you ever tried to launch the keyboard troubleshooter? You probably haven’t, because it doesn’t work very well. But if you try it now, you might find yourself wondering why it didn’t work.

That’s because there’s no keyboard troubleshooter built right into Windows 10. Instead, Microsoft created a separate app called the Keyboard Troubleshooter. Unfortunately, it’s not very user-friendly.

So instead of launching the Desktop Keyboard Troubleshooters, most users end up searching online for solutions to their problems.

Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to this problem. All you have to do is open the Start menu and search for the Keyboard Troubleshoot tool. Once you click on it, you’ll be able to launch the Keyboard Troubleshooting tool directly from the Start menu.

Once you launch the Keyboard Troubleshooting tool, you’ll be presented with a list of common issues that may cause your keyboard to stop working properly. From there, you can select the issue that you’re experiencing and fix it quickly and easily.

6. Turn Off The Filter Keys

There are two types of keys on most keyboards: function keys and modifier keys. Function keys control functions within applications, such as opening menus, changing settings, etc.

Modifier keys modify the functionality of the function keys. For example, pressing Shift + F4 opens the File menu in Microsoft Word.

To turn off the filter keys, hold down the Fn key and press any of the following keys: F1 through F12. You can also press the Delete key instead of the F2 key.

This trick works on Windows computers only. On Macs, you can simply press Command+Fn+Delete.

7. Set The Repeat Delay And Repeat Rate

There are two settings that control the keyboard repeat rate and delay between repeats of a sound file. To change the repeat rate, click the dropdown menu next to Repeat Delay and select a value from the list. You can adjust the repeat rate from 1 second to 10 seconds.

To change the delay between repeats, click the dropdown menus next to Repeat Rate and Repeat Delay and select a number from the list. You should aim to keep the delay between repeats at 0.5 seconds or less.

For example, if you wanted to play a sound effect every 5 seconds, you’d enter 5 in the Repeat Delay box and 0.5 in the Repeat Rate box.

8. Reinstall Or Update The Keyboard Driver

Sometimes, the keys on your keyboard stop working. You may think that it’s a hardware problem, but it might actually be a software issue. There are two common causes of this problem:

1. A bad driver. Sometimes, the drivers for your computer’s keyboard won’t work properly. Try reinstalling or updating the problematic keyboard driver.

2. An outdated operating system. If you recently upgraded to Windows 10, then you may not have updated the keyboard driver. If you haven’t installed any updates since upgrading to Windows 10, then try installing the latest update.

To install the latest update, open the Start menu and search for “Windows Update”. Click on the option that says “Check now”, and click on “Install Updates”. After the installation completes, restart your PC.

9. Make Use Of An External Keyboard

External keyboards come in various sizes and shapes, including clamshells, stand-alone models, and portable versions. Some even include extra buttons for additional functionality.

The external type of keyboard is great for those who spend most of their day sitting at a desk. They’re also ideal for anyone who needs to type quickly and accurately.

External keyboards are a convenient solution for those who struggle to hit the right keys on their laptop keyboard. Try out an external keyboard today!”
